JESSE PINTADO On TERRORIZER's Rebirth, Touring Memories

August 29, 2006

Just a few short weeks prior to his untimely death, TERRORIZER/ex-NAPALM DEATH guitarist Jesse Pintado was interviewed by Kari Koskinen of Imhotep webzine. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Imhotep: Does it feel strange to promote TERRORIZER again after all these years?

Jesse: "Not really, it feels good because we had lots of songs that were never recorded. Pete [Sandoval, drums] and I throughout the years always used to go to Florida and rehearse and we compiled a lot of material. He has his schedules and I got mine and finally we got to the point where all worked out and we said that, 'Well, let's just do it!' I know it has been a lot of years and at one point we thought that it was going to be more difficult, but I think the record proves itself; it's brutal and extreme and we're all happy about it."

Imhotep: What kind of future plans you have, are you going to do any touring or have you thought about forthcoming releases?

Jesse: "Yeah, we are doing maybe two shows in November here in Germany, and coincidently some Christmas festivals with MOTÖRHEAD also here in Germany. We'll take it from there. We just have to wait and see when the record comes out and see what the response is. We are also going to release a DVD probably some time in the future. We have recorded a lot of stuff, I don't mean like METALLICA or anything, but we might put out a… I wouldn't say a movie, but a little film — not just videos or anything, but a film, a documentary about the history of grind and how we came across and you know, something like that. We have old videos from when we were growing up, so there's going to be dogs and cats and people messing around, playing in a parties in front of two people and something like that. We just have to get it all together and edit it."

On touring memories:

Jesse: "Oh my God, I don't even know from where to start, haha. Falling off stage… we played at this club in Spain. It wasn't really a stage; it was more like a DJ booth and if you move one step too far you are down. You know, you get crazy, start headbanging, start moving and then you take one step too much. It was also a high stage, higher than a regular door, and I was like damn! But show must go on. I'm not going to move no more, haha!"

"There have been some weird incidents. The weirdest one was in Poland I think, where this guy was hanging around after the gig and he didn't speak English properly and he said, 'We must trade.' I said 'OK, we must trade, but trade what? I got nothing to trade.' Then he goes, 'What size shoes are you?' I thought that was the weirdest shit and said to him 'About ten, depending on the shoes,' and he said 'Ohhh, we must trade shoes!' I had some brand new boots and he had some old wannabe-Nikes all beat up and full of mud, so I said 'I'm sorry man I can't trade,' hahaha! But it wasn't over yet. He had this crusty-ass old jacket and he goes, 'This is a present from me!' It was cold as fuck and I said, 'Naah, you need it more than I do, you keep it.' He goes, 'No, no, it's a present! You must take!' Finally he left, haha. Imagine, would you give up your shoes? I mean, isn't that the weirdest shit? I know bands trade demos, CDs and t-shirts, but hey, 'You wanna trade shoes?' Hahaha! So next time you go out, take the most beat-up shoes you have and go to your friend saying, 'You wanna trade shoes?' Also take a dirty jacket and tell him 'This is a present from me, you must take!', haha!"
