JETBOY Guitarist Interviewed On 'All Hail Hair' Radio Show

April 25, 2010

Guitarist Billy Rowe of California glam-rock veterans JETBOY was recently interviewed on the "All Hail Hair" radio show with host Bob Carroll as part of a two-hour special on the band. The program, which can be streamed using the audio player below, featured music spanning the group's last twenty-five years, including everything from JETBOY's earliest recordings all the way through the current EP.

Twenty years after the release of the highly acclaimed "Damnednation", JETBOY's latest EP, "Off Your Rocker", was made available on March 2 via iTunes and Amazon.com.

Best described as a blend of edgy rock and roll with a traditional, blues-based influence, "Off Your Rocker" is the perfect vehicle to exploit the commanding vocal styling of Mickey Finn.

The three studio tracks on the EP were written in mere days, further exemplifying the fact that the music is so entrenched in passion that the writing was clearly unforced.

Having been absent from the studio for some 20 years, JETBOY recorded "Off Your Rocker" in a fully organic mode. The band played all in the same room together in a "live-style" format in an effort to duplicate the way the songs were written, all together, in a true 1970s fashion where the bandmembers could feed off of one another's energy.

No longer bound to the constraints of a major label like MCA Records has afforded the band the freedom to make music its own way. However, freedom has its price, and that price in the recording industry is the pressure of getting into the studio and back out again as economically as possible.

"Contrary to what people may think, pressure is great for creativity," says Billy Rowe.

"'Off Your Rocker' was recorded without all of the luxuries and creature comforts that we had when we were with MCA. So, while there was a lot more pressure and no big spread in the green room, this disc captures the essence of what JETBOY has been about since day one.

"Down and dirty rock and roll that leaves you feeling edgy and excited every time you hear it.

"We wanted to rock you the old-fashioned way where every time you get in your car your first priority is making sure the stereo is turned up to 10, and to hell with the temperature gauge!"

"Off Your Rocker" track listing:

01. Perfectly Wrong
02. Going Down (Above The Clouds)
03. Dogs Gotta Roam
04. High Gear (live)
05. Crank It Up (live)
06. Losin' Streak (live)

A teaser video for "Off Your Rocker" can be viewed below.

Reality Check TV shot the in-studio recording sessions that form the basis of the teaser, which contains preview clips of the first original material in 20 years from the reunited glam-rock pioneers. Additional footage from this session will also find its way into the upcoming JETBOY documentary, which is still in production by Reality Check TV. Notable luminaries who have been interviewed for the film include Lemmy, Gilby Clarke, Paul Black and Frank Meyer (STREET WALKIN' CHEETAHS, ANGUS KHAN).

Reality Check TV previously produced the "mini-doc" included in JETBOY's last CD/DVD release, "The Glam Years", on Cleopatra/Deadline Records.

"The Glam Years" contained a DVD of a 1986 concert at Los Angeles' legendary Whisky a Go-Go (featuring a chock-full of extra interviews and photos) as well as a 21-track CD of the group's greatest hits.
