JIMI HENDRIX's MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL Medallion Fails To Find A Buyer

November 24, 2005

A medallion worn by doomed guitarist Jimi Hendrix during his memorable June 18, 1967, performance at the Monterey Pop Festival found no buyer at a New York auction Monday (Nov. 21) in Christie's Rockefeller Center location. The piece had been estimated to sell for between $60,000 and $80,000, but but at a maximum bid of $50,000, the item wasn't sold. According to Christie's, Hendrix presented the medallion with its bird motifs to a Brooklyn woman after they met in a discotheque called The Scene about a month after Monterey.
