JOE ELLIOTT Issues Warning Against Fake DEF LEPPARD Items On EBAY

DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott has posted the following message on the band's official web site:

"Just a quick one this time. I need to warn you all, that there's a lot of stuff on eBay at the moment that is completely fake! Take this item, for example. NOT ONE OF THOSE AUTOGRAPHS IS REAL. Completely fake — and the company, Reels Autographs, are asking almost $50.00 for it.

"Please don't fall for this. This whole eBay thing is getting out of hand, to the point where we are having to tell a lot of autograph hunters to FUCK OFF! They stand outside airports and hotels with guitars, scratch plates, magazines, and suprisingly not many CDs. It's pretty obvious they're selling the stuff, as they more often than not ask for us not to dedicate them — and when they do (in the case of the guitars or scratch plates for instance),they use nail polish remover to wipe it off.

"If any of us mistakenly think you, the fans, are one of them, WE APOLOGISE! Of course we gladly give autographs to fans for free, as any artist should! What pisses us off is you guys having to buy them and when you do, there's NO guarantee they're even real! I've taken to signing other people's names just to get them to go away, so please don't buy the stuff off them on eBay. We'll give it to you if we get the chance and if we don't get the chance, honestly, you're better off with NO autograph than a FAKE autograph.

"We've tried to figure out how to get around this problem and quite honestly, it's a tricky one. It's impossible to tell sometimes, but generally a real fan wouldn't be as cocky as these guys. A real fan would normally have the new CD, or all the old ones, a bit dog-eared or rough round the edges, but NOT shrink wrapped copies of a 20-year-old album! Hopefully you, the REAL fans, can start helping us by letting us know if you know who they are.

"I don't want to tell a fan to fuck off.....but the chances are that one of the five of us will someday, purely and simply because one day we really won't be able to tell! You need to help us out here, but the trouble is we don't really know what you can do either! We really just don't want you to be ripped off and I hope you understand where we're coming from here!"
