JOE ELLIOTT Says A DEF LEPPARD Box Set Is A Possibility

In recent interviews, DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott revealed that the band is working on its first live album — a CD containing music from last year's "Sparkle Lounge" tour. However, that's not all the guys are putting together. The rocker told VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner there are talks of a box set and revealed what might be on it.

"There's negotiations, I think they call it," he explained. "The shirts are talking to each other and then, when they come out of their scrap with black eyes and bruised knuckled and stuff, we pick up the pieces and see where we go from there, but there's a lot of stuff knocking around that would be really nice on a box set. Not just putting all the album tracks that everybody's got, but taking maybe different versions or some very rare, only-available-in-Europe kind of material and putting it all into one disc."

With a history spanning 30 years, Joe said DEF LEPPARD has tons of material that could go on a box set.

"There's lots of it," he told Basner. "You don't think there's much, but when you actually start plowing through it, there's a lot of stuff that we've done that didn't really see the light of day. Especially the live material. There's a hell of a lot of live material."

Elliott is saluting his childhood heroes MOTT THE HOOPLE with his new side band DOWN N' OUTZ, which features members of British rock band THE QUIREBOYS. The album, called "My ReGeneration", features tunes songs by MOTT THE HOOPLE spin-offs — MOTT, IAN HUNTER and BRITISH LIONS.

According to The Pulse of Radio, the DOWN N' OUTZ CD sounds professionally recorded — but with the energy of a live concert. "Absolutely right — because it started as a gig and it became an album," Elliott agreed.

"Most people make a record and then take it out on the road," he continued.

"When MOTT THE HOOPLE reformed after 35 years of being defunct, I was asked to participate because I had been their cultural ambassador for 25 years. And it worked out that I opened for them on the last night. I picked the songs to enhance the evening. So avoided all things MOTT THE HOOPLE, and I chose to do 10 songs that they were all involved with after they split up. So while the songs were still fresh in our DNA we decided we wanted to make this into an album."

DOWN 'N OUTZ, featuring Joe Elliott, will next perform on Sunday (July 25) on the main stage of inaugural High Voltage festival at Victoria Park, London.
