October 13, 2010

"Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards", the 14th studio album from Joe Satriani, sold 10,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 45 on The Billboard 200 chart. This marks the highest opening chart position ever for the Grammy-nominated guitarist.

Satriani now embarks on a much anticipated world tour, kicking off October 16 in Dublin, Ireland. North American dates will begin on December 1 in Atlanta, with scheduled dates in Chicago, New York, Boston. The second leg of Satriani's "Black Swans" tour will begin on January 4, 2011 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with dates confirmed to follow in Seattle, Portland, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Reno, Las Vegas and Texas.

Joining Joe on the road will be veteran Satriani bandmate Jeff Campitelli on drums, and newcomers, keyboardist Mike Keneally (FRANK ZAPPA, STEVE VAI) and bassist Allen Whitman (MERMEN),all of whom recorded with Joe on this album. Satriani's classic six-string sound has become a staple on the American music scene and is now matched with a tantalizingly rich texture of new material as well. All together, both album and tour, Joe Satriani's "Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards" promises nothing less than a magical, musical experience that lifts the spirit and takes flight.

Last week, Satriani made two special in-store appearances, to the delight of his devout fans and recent converts alike, signing copies of the new album, along with Guitar World's December issue, featuring Satriani on the cover. The two in-stores appearances were at the Best Buy West L.A. store along with Borders downtown in Satriani's hometown of San Francisco.

In other exciting Satriani news, music sensation Nicki Minaj recently sampled the classic Satriani song "Always With Me, Always With You" in her new release, "Right Through Me", from her upcoming debut album, due out this November. "Always With Me, Always With You" originally appeared on Satriani's platinum-selling album "Surfing With The Alien".

In 2009, Satriani joined with former VAN HALEN frontman Sammy Hagar, former bassist Michael Anthony, and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS' drummer Chad Smith to form the stand-out rock collaboration CHICKENFOOT. After a highly successful U.S. tour, their self-titled debut album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America with over 500,000 in album shipments.
