
JOURNEY Drummer DEEN CASTRONOVO Suffers Medical Emergency During Tulsa Concert
October 9, 2026JOURNEY drummer Deen Castronovo suffered a medical emergency during the band's concert Thursday night (October 8) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. JOURNEY reportedly stopped the show after just two songs, at which point keyboardist Jonathan Cain addressed the crowd after all the other bandmembers left the stage.
"We're gong to see what happens as this progresses," Cain said. "It's an unfortunate situation. We're very sorry. We're hoping it's only a delay, but please — I'm sorry. Don't worry. Have your prayers ready. Have your prayers ready for Deen Castronovo, everybody. Thank you."
Around 10 minutes later, JOURNEY guitarist Neal Schon returned to the stage and said that Castronovo had been taken to the hospital. The show then continued, with Castronovo's drum tech, Steve Toomey, sitting behind the kit.
"Give a big hand for Steve Toomey," Schon said. "We love you all. We're very sorry for the inconvenience."
Later in the night, Schon told the crowd at at BOK Center: "This concert is for Deen. I think he's going to be fine."
JOURNEY's "Final Frontier" farewell tour launched in Hershey, Pennsylvania on February 28. The current leg of the tour kicked off on September 12 in Los Angeles and will conclude on November 28 in San Francisco.
JOURNEY features Schon (lead guitar),Cain (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals),Arnel Pineda (lead vocals),Castronovo (drums, vocals),Jason Derlatka (keyboards, vocals) and Todd Jensen (bass, vocals).
Castronovo was dismissed from JOURNEY in 2015 following years of alcohol and drug abuse that led to him being sentenced to four years' probation for a variety of charges involving his now-wife. Castronovo later admitted that he emotionally, verbally and physically abused his now-wife and said that he will always be indebted to her for calling the police after his 24-day methamphetamine binge.
Castronovo returned to JOURNEY in July 2021 and has been performing with the band ever since, initially sharing the drum duties in the group with Narada Michael Walden.
In March 2021, Castronovo revealed that he was on opiates for over a year while waiting to get his back surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic.
