JUDAS PRIEST's ROB HALFORD: There Is Nothing Wrong With Saying 'Sorry'
August 19, 2004JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford, who will turn 53 on Wednesday (August 25),revealed in 1996 that he was gay. He says he didn't make the acknowledgement when he still was with PRIEST because he believed a potential backlash could have hurt the band's status.
According to Halford, negative feedback from fans never arrived.
"We separate ourselves, don't we? When you go to the office, you're a different person, basically," Halford told Indystar.com in a brand-new interview. "That's the way it is in all walks of life. I didn't really, on a personal level, put much into it. I'm still able to do that now.
"I was just in Wal-Mart just a few minutes ago getting things for the bus. You have to be able to get offstage. It's when you can't get offstage is when the madness begins. You have to be able to live your own life away from work."
Halford initiated the reunion process five years ago when he wrote a letter to Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downing and Ian Hill.
"There's nothing wrong with saying, 'Sorry,' " Halford said. "I don't think people say they're sorry enough.
"I felt that I had to get a lot of these emotions out and connect with the guys. And that's what I did. I wrote a letter and explained my feelings and basically said how much I missed everybody. That was the start of the very, very slow process of reunion."
