Judge: No Disciplinary Action Against GUNS N' ROSES Riot Cops
June 23, 2004CBC Online reports: Two Vancouver Police officers did not use excessive force at the GUNS N' ROSES riot in November 2002, says the retired judge who chaired a Police Complaints Commission hearing into the incident.
Adjudicator Ross Collver has found Const. Reginald Forster did not use excessive force against concert-goer Robert Parent.
Parent was struck in the face (Real Media) by Forster in the riot, suffering extensive damage to his jaw and teeth — that cost $25,000 to repair.
However, Judge Collver did find that Forster and Const. Ryan D'Onofrio used unnecessary force against Detlef Schroeder.
Schroeder was beaten with steel batons while his daughter looked on.
But Collver is not recommending the officers be disciplined, noting that the officers have unblemished records.
He says with the exception of a momentary lapse in extremely stressful circumstances, the officers conducted themselves appropriately. Read more.
