KORN Bassist Says His Bandmates Are 'Not Very Animated' About His New Side Project
May 30, 2011Revolver magazine recently conducted an interview with KORN bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu about STILLWELL the new band featuring Fieldy on guitar, Q on vocals, Wuv (P.O.D.) on drums and Spider on bass. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Revolver: Did you specifically want to play guitar instead of bass in STILLWELL?
Fieldy: Yeah, because when I started out, I played guitar. I grew up with [former KORN guitarist [Head, you know? One day in high school, we were riding in his car, and he was saying that he wanted to start a band but he needed a bass player. I just wanted to be in a band, so I said, "I'll play bass." It happened that fast.
Revolver: Are you still in touch with Head?
Fieldy: It seems I'll get in touch with him about once a year or so. I'm probably about due to call him and say what's up. But he's out touring with his band. To tell you the truth, I don't even know what happened with him leaving KORN. I know some goofy words were said back and forth, but I bet you nobody in KORN could even tell you for sure. I think it'd be cool if he came back and rocked with us. I'd be down. But there's three other dudes in the band, so I don't know.
Revolver: What do the KORN guys think of STILLWELL?
Fieldy: They actually watch us almost every night, but they don't seem very animated about things, for some reason. They're not coming up to me, like, "Dude, that is sooo dope!" But I'll see Jonathan [Davis, KORN vocalist] watching us from the side of the stage from time to time. I saw Munky [KORN guitarist] watching us from the soundboard the other night.
Revolver: Now that STILLWELL are up and running, what's the status of FIELDY'S DREAMS?
Fieldy: You know, I was real young when I did that. Today I don't think I need to be on a mic. I don't think I have a voice. That's a gift that some people have. Back then, KORN was on top and we could do anything we wanted. But I look back on it now and I'm embarrassed. [Laughs] At least I can say that. I wish I never did it, but obviously it's out and there's nothing I can do about it.
