KORN Guitarist To Launch 'Multi-Genre' Record Label

July 19, 2006

KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer has announced plans to form his own record company.

"I'm looking to put together a really eclectic record label that's only for the artists," Munky said during a live appearance on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" this past Monday (July 17). "I want to give back what I've been given, which is the opportunity to make music and make a living. I want it to be multi-genre — hip hop, rock, jazz. I want to sign a jazz band later. Right now I have three acts that I'm about to sign so I'm really excited."

KORN played two songs acoustically last night (Tuesday, July 18) on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" The performance marked only the second national television appearance ever by KORN, following last year's spot as the musical guests on "Saturday Night Live". It's also just the second unplugged performance of the band's career after a four-song stint on AOL's "Acoustic Sessions" this past April. The group performed singles "Twisted Transistor" and "Coming Undone", both from its latest studio album, "See You On The Other Side".

As for whether KORN plans to incorporate acoustic sets into its headlining run on the upcoming Family Values tour, singer Jonathan Davis recently told Launch he hasn't ruled it out. "Everyone's asking that and I don't know," he said. "We'll see once we get into rehearsals. It would be cool 'cause we've been doing it a lot lately and everybody's really been responding to it and liking it a lot, so we'll see. I don't know. It's just, it's weird — I think it would have to be acoustic, all acoustic, or all heavy. I don't know. We'll have to see."

Davis has been home in Los Angeles recovering from a rare and potentially fatal blood disorder that forced KORN to cancel most of a European tour last month.

The band will begin its headlining stint on the Family Values tour on July 27 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with DEFTONES, STONE SOUR, 10 YEARS, FLYLEAF and others.

KORN has added a handful of solo headlining dates around Family Values stops, including August 1 in Orlando, Florida, August 8 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and August 9 in Oklahoma City.
