LAMB OF GOD Guitarist On New CD: 'We Really Wanted To Create A Classic Record'

Pat Douglas of the Great Falls Tribune recently conducted an interview with LAMB OF GOD guitarist Willie Adler. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

On the making of the group's new album, "Sacrament":

"This was our sophomore release on a major and (we had to) step it up and prove to them and everybody else that we're worthy of being here. It wasn't necessarily something that we were stressed about or fearful that we wouldn't be able to overcome the success of ('Ashes of the Wake'). It just seemed natural that we were going to overcome this and put out an even better record."

"Our confidence is built up ... more so in the live setting. Where we can feel comfortable headlining a festival like Sounds of the Underground. Our confidence rose out of that and writing stuff for the new record had to be tantamount to our live show. We're pushing ourselves, but at this point, we really wanted to create a classic record."

On the subject matter for "Sacrament":

"This record, definitely isn't on the political spectrum of things, whereas in the past we've focused a lot on that. I think going into this record there was a lot of personal things going on and the record in itself had a real kind of creepy, dark vibe. I think it kind of reflects the situations that were going on in our personal lives."

On the new track "Redneck", which shows the influence late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott had on Adler as a guitarist:

"You can't ignore your influences. I don't think, purposefully, we went into it to make a PANTERA song, it was just something that we've grown up and listened to and everything like that. That's our 'Cowboys from Hell' song."
