Late BONHAM Singer DANIEL MACMASTER: Tribute Concert To Be Held In May
March 25, 2008A tribute concert for late BONHAM vocalist singer Daniel MacMaster will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at The Foundation nightclub in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. Tickets will cost $15 and will go on sale soon at www.ticketbreak.com. All proceeds will go to Daniel's longtime girlfriend Tina McCallum and their two children, Kaleb, 8, and Aryanna, 6.
Daniel's close friend and former SCORCHER bandmate Terry Baker, who is helping to organize the show, told BLABBERMOUTH.NET, "Even if you can't go, please show support and buy a ticket anyway as 100% goes to his wife and kids. I'm playing and I'm buying a ticket.
"There you go again, Dan, getting me to play for free. [Laughs] SCORCHER, [Daniel's] first band, will host the night.
Terry added, "I picked May 11 as that was the day of the month he was born on (actually July 11). Dan was a Cancer (mother of the Zodiac). Now I'm not into astrology, but I found out that it's Mother's Day also.
"Anyway, gave me a chill, so it's the right day.
"Fall off your wallets and show support.
"Thanks for all who have posted.
"You guys should have heard him sing 'Cryin' in the Rain' or 'Still of the Night'. Better than Coverdale. No offense, David. I guess that's why Robert Plant said he was going to remove a testicle when he heard Dan sing."
BONHAM released its first record, "The Disregard of Timekeeping", in September 1989, which was eventually certified gold, and featured the single "Wait For You". A follow-up album, "Mad Hatter", was released in 1992.
"He sold more records than most Canadians two, two-and-a-half million copies in the U.S.," Baker told The Barrie Examiner. "Very few people have done that. He was just a natural."
Over the years, Baker said MacMaster's travels brought him into contact with some of the biggest names in rock, including AC/DC's Brian Johnson and LED ZEPPELIN's Robert Plant. Touring all over the world, MacMaster shared the stage with the likes of MTLEY CRE and THE CULT.
But MacMaster lived day to day.
"He just didn't worry about stuff," Baker told The Barrie Examiner. "King for a day, you know, but a very good-hearted person."
MacMaster, 39, died unexpectedly on March 16 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada following complications from pneumonia, after a strep A infection entered his bloodstream.
