LESLIE WEST Plays First Show Since Having Half Of His Leg Amputated (Video)
February 1, 2012Legendary MOUNTAIN guitarist Leslie West returned to the stage last night for the first time since undergoing an emergency leg amputation last year. West played at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City as part of a tour with Uli Jon Roth. Check out fan-filmed video footage of the concert below.
According to JamBands.com, West — who performed while sitting in a wheelchair — opened his set with "People Get Ready" but was forced to pause halfway through the song due to his overwhelming emotions. The crowd responded with a standing ovation.
West's leg was removed last late June just above the knee due to complications from diabetes. "I cried a couple fuckin' times," he told Billboard.com. "You still feel the nerves and stuff like that. I had to make a decision — lose my leg or lose my life. What are you gonna do? But I'll tell you, it's a good thing it wasn't one of my arms. Then I'd be really fucked."
