LIMP BIZKIT's FRED DURST Testifies In Australian Fan Death Inquest
June 17, 2002LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst told a Sydney court he had been concerned about security at a Big Day Out (BDO) music festival in which a teenager died, according to the Associated Press.
Giving evidence by video link from Los Angeles, Fred Durst today told a special sitting of the court at the Downing Centre that he had raised concerns with tour promoter Vivian Lee.
The NSW Coroner's Court is looking into the death of Jessica Michalik, who suffered a heart attack in a crowd crush during the band's performance at last year's BDO concert.
The discussions had taken place after a crowd collapse during the band's first concert in Auckland earlier, Durst said.
"We definitely said that if they do not fix security we would not play," Durst said. "He thought I was trying to tell him how to do his job. (I said) I just hope the security's better at the next show because that was a little out of hand."
Durst said Jessica's death had affected him deeply.
She died, aged 16, five days after the Australia Day concert.
"It was so overwhelming that a young girl came to see her favorite band and left in a coma and died," he said.
"I'm very emotional right now talking about it, it's taken me a long time to talk about this."
