LINKIN PARK Building New Home In Gulf Coast Region
August 30, 2007The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: LINKIN PARK will fund and build a new house in the Gulf Coast region through the band's Music For Relief organization, according to a statement issued by the group's publicist. Money for the house will be raised through donations and merchandise sales on LINKIN PARK's current Projekt Revolution tour. In addition, one fan and a guest will personally assist LINKIN PARK and the new homeowners in constructing the new house. Fans interested in entering the contest should submit a video explaining what he or she has done to make the world a better place. The clip should be less than two minutes long and sent to [email protected].
Entries can also be recorded directly at the Music For Relief booth on the Projekt Revolution tour. All entrees must be in by September 29. The winner will be announced on October 1, with the project slated to start after LINKIN PARK completes its current world tour.
LINKIN PARK originally began Music For Relief to aid with rebuilding in Southeast Asia after the 2004 tsunami. Singer Chester Bennington said that the organization has expanded its goals since then. "You know, we started Music For Relief, you know, after some pretty horrible natural disasters occurred and we felt that we were in a position where we could actually do something," he said. "And now with the question arising — does global warming have an effect on the increase of a lot of these natural disasters — I think that it's important to raise awareness."
The band and Music For Relief are working in conjunction with Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity, an entertainment industry offshoot of Habitat for Humanity, which has sponsored numerous construction projects in the hurricane-ravaged region. The announcement came as the Gulf Coast marked the two-year anniversary on August 29 of Hurricane Katrina's landfall.
