LINKIN PARK Films 'The Catalyst' Video

July 14, 2010

LINKIN PARK recently filmed a video for its new single, "The Catalyst", with band DJ Joseph Hahn at the helm.

Hahn, whose directorial credits include such award-winning videos as LINKIN PARK's "In The End" (2002's VMA "Video of the Year" winner) and "Somewhere I Belong" (2003's VMA "Best Rock Video" winner),as well as music clips for XZIBIT, STORY OF THE YEAR and ALKALINE TRIO, also helmed LINKIN PARK videos for the smash hits "What I've Done" and "Bleed It Out" off the band's double-platinum-selling "Minutes To Midnight" album.

"The Catalyst" is the first single off LINKIN PARK's fourth studio album, "A Thousand Suns", which will arrive on September 14. The song will make its worldwide radio debut on August 2, when it will also begin streaming on the band's MySpace page. LINKIN PARK has promised a very different album from 2007's "Minutes To Midnight" and singer Chester Bennington told The Pulse of Radio that he expects fans to be surprised. "Everybody in the band is involved in the writing process, so I think sonically, if people felt like they knew what LINKIN PARK was or they could, they thought they knew what LINKIN PARK's sound was — if 'Minutes To Midnight' threw them off, they're in for a ride, 'cause it's getting harder and harder for us, let alone anybody else, to classify what LINKIN PARK is," he said.

The group is also teaming with MySpace on a special promotion called "Linkin Park, Featuring You," which will give fans an opportunity to collaborate with LINKIN PARK on their own song based on some of the tracks from the forthcoming single.

LINKIN PARK vocalist and album co-producer Mike Shinoda said in a statement, "Reserving a spot for a fan to play on one of our songs felt like a way to show our dedication to them . . . Our fans continually energize us with their creativity and dedication, so I think they're going to come up with something great."

The contest winner's submission will either be included on the new album or on a future release. Fans can download audio stems from "The Catalyst" at the MySpace page, which they can use as the basis for their songs. Once fans complete their new songs, they can upload them to the LINKIN PARK MySpace page, where they will be shared in an embeddable player and available for rating. LINKIN PARK will also offer live shows, exclusive content and chances to interact with the band on MySpace throughout the next four months.

LINKIN PARK will begin a European fall tour on October 20 in Berlin, wrapping up on November 11 in London. North American dates are yet to be announced.
