LOCO Part With Guitarist, Seek Replacement

May 27, 2002

LOCO have amicably parted ways with guitarist Brent Bednar. In an official statement from the band, lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Art had this to say: "Brent decided it was time for him to move on and do his own thing. It's all good between him and the band. We wish him the best and hope to see him taking to the stage again soon. There's really nothing more to say about it. We're looking for a new guitarist and we're in the middle of writing the next album. We're stoked about it. Things are goin' great ... the vibe for the new material is wicked ... definitely heavier and more progressive."

In other news, LOCO have been invited to perform a showcase gig at North By Northeast (NXNE) on Saturday, June 8th at the Kathedral in Toronto, Ontario. In an interesting twist, longtime friend of the band, Tom MacDonald (i.e. FLYBANGER, BIG FAT SCRATCH) will be temporarily stepping in to take over the axeman duties for a few shows. Drummer Anton commented on Tom's role in the band: "Ya, it's wicked for us to have Tom in the band, even if it's only short term. He's been a part of the LOCO extended family for years. We've toured with both FLYBANGER and his new band BIG FAT SCRATCH. It just seemed right to have him hop on board." Tom's presence in LOCO is confirmed for the NXNE showcase, as well as a surprise show in Winnipeg Manitoba at the Zoo just prior to NXNE on June 4th. When asked about the possibility of Tom becoming LOCO's full-time guitarist, Anton said, "We're auditioning guitarists as soon as we get back from Toronto. That's our main focus ... auditioning new players and finishing off the album. Tom's busy with his new project, BIG FAT SCRATCH. But who knows ... stranger things have happened!"
