MÖTLEY CRÜE Bassist: 'I Am Blown Away To Be Able To Be In A Band That's Lasted Over 25 Years'

October 17, 2006

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following message in his online diary:

"I'm laying in bed in Kansas City. It's a day off and my ears are still ringing from the show last night. The curtains in my room are closed but daylight is fighting to get in and I'm doing my best to fend it off. Last night wasn't unlike 10,000 other nights in my life but every now and then everything snaps into focus for a moment and you feel every ounce of reality set in. It feels like a cross between a deja vu and being hit by a ton of bricks.

"I was standing onstage as Mick [Mars, guitar] was blazing into his nightly guitar solo, smoke billowing around him, the strob lights pounding above his head… Vince [Neil, vocals] walked by and punched me in the arm (we all do that to each other a lot),but what I noticed mostly was he was smiling (a very evil grin). I looked over at Tommy [Lee, drums] and he too was smiling… Then all of a sudden everything started to move in slow motion (like god slowed everything down so I could enjoy the moment) right then and there I looked out over the crowd… all lit up, hands in the air, lighters, screaming in celebration… It was right out of a movie…. and I thought about being a kid listening to AEROSMITH, KISS, QUEEN, SLADE, SWEET, SABBATH, BOWIE, T.REX, etc etc. and remembered how I always wondered what their lives were like and it hit me. (Did I mention a ton of bricks??) I can't believe this is my life… Today I am blown away to be able to be in a band that's lasted over 25 years… to be able to do things like launch a clothing line, having a book that's coming out next year…a movie about our lives in production, songs are still flowing and photography (what can I say, I'm in love with it) …and the most wonderful kids in the world who love me, friends and family and fans all over the world… Yeah, I'm waxing poetic… I guess I'm just trying to say thank you…

"No, there is no woman in my life right now… but I have those faces smiling back at me every night, all those hands in the air and the love of people close to me to remind me every day… be happy for what you have…

"As Joan Jett sang, 'I love rock 'n' roll', and as a critic recently said about us, 'How can these guys still be alive and kicking ass after everything they have been thru?'

"All I know is… 'till death do us…"
