MÖTLEY CRÜE: 'Red, White & Crüe' Officially Certified Platinum

July 8, 2005

MÖTLEY CRÜE's two-CD "greatest hits" collection, "Red, White & Crüe", was officially certified platinum in June by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies (multi-disc albums get counted once for each disc within the album; regular platinum certification occurs at 1 million copies). "Red, White & Crüe" has sold 388,391 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Even though "Red, White & Crüe" was not officially certified platinum until last month, MÖTLEY CRÜE were presented with their platinum awards back on March 23 — less than two months after the album's release — prior to their performance at The Forum in Inglewood, California. "Red, White & Crüe" contains the original CRÜE's first studio recordings since 1998's "Greatest Hits". The group's last full-length collection of new material, "Generation Swine", was released in 1997. A full-length studio album, "New Tattoo", was issued in 2000 without the contributions of drummer Tommy Lee, who had left the group to launch a solo career. That set featured the talents of former OZZY OSBOURNE drummer Randy Castillo.
