MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Talks About Next SIXX: A.M. Album
April 10, 2010MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx spoke to Billboard about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the new album from SIXX: A.M., his band with James Michael and D.J. Ashba.
"We've got a lot of songs," Sixx said, "and we're in the final home stretch of buttoning all those songs up. It's definitely going to be this year — or in a perfect world, it will be this year. I don't want to jinx it."
The new album will be another concept piece, but Sixx isn't revealing the storyline yet. "As a lyricist, I'm really trying to raise my level of quality," Sixx said. "Being able to say something lyrically, to say something that will do more than just be words, is really hard. It's easy to do when you're writing a chapter of a book or writing poetry, but it's really hard to do when you're confined to a melody line."
Considering the fact that SIXX: A.M.'s debut, "The Heroin Diaries", has shifted more than 300,000 copies in the U.S. to date, there is quite a bit of pressure on SIXX: A.M. to deliver a worthy follow-up effort, but Sixx says he is doing his best to put it aside.
"There are expectations, but you have to ignore them," he said. "SIXX: A.M. is a passion project. I think when you do things like that and put your heart into them and do your best and don't necessarily put them on a marketing grid, that's when things turn out the best."
