Malaysian Heavy Metal Singer Charged With Drug Abuse
March 12, 2007Malaysia's The Star Online reports that the lead singer of the Malaysian heavy metal band XPDC (web site) was charged with drug abuse in a magistrate's court in Petaling Jaya on Monday (March 12).
Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim, better known as Mael, was charged with consuming cannabis on March 7 around 9:30 p.m.
The rocker's 30-year-old friend, Mohd Ismail Mohamed Taib, who lives in a house along that road, was also charged with the same offense.
The two were arrested by policemen patrolling the area.
Both pleaded not guilty after their charges were read to them.
When the magistrate asked 39-year-old Mael what his occupation was, he replied "ahli muzik (musician)."
Prosecuting officer P. Ravi proposed a RM2,000 bail for each accused.
A friend of Mael's, who posted bail for him, asked the amount to be reduced, saying that he did not have a steady job and had to borrow money for the bail.
