MARK KENDALL Says GREAT WHITE Has 'A Lot' Of New Material 'On Tape': 'We Wanna Put Something Out'

In a new interview with Rock 100.5 The KATT's Cameron Buchholtz, GREAT WHITE guitarist Mark Kendall was asked if there are any plans for him and his bandmates to release fresh music with their singer Brett Carlisle, who was officially named GREAT WHITE's new vocalist in October 2022. Mark responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "Absolutely. Just lately we've been going in the studio with a buddy of mine, Tracy G. He's just a friend I've known since we were teenagers. He played guitar in DIO for, like, seven years, and I just played on his solo album. He had a hodgepodge of different guitar players play on this album he made, and said if I ever have any ideas [for new GREAT WHITE songs], come on over and lay it down [at his studio]. So I started doing that. And I flew Brett up. He's been out about four times, so we got a lot on tape. We wanna put something out. As soon as we get a little break, we're gonna maybe put out one song at a time type deal, do a video. Because of today's world, it's so much different. It's not like the past where you put out full records. We might record a full album, but I think the way we'll release it is kind of one [song] at a time."

Asked if it is a concern to him to make new GREAT WHITE material and then have no room for it in the setlist, since he and his bandmates have to always play all the hits, Mark said: "We always play a couple of [new] songs live [after they are released]. We just never bombard people with the whole [new] album or something. So that's the way we've always done it, even in our heyday. We'll play a couple songs, maybe the one that's on the radio and another one. But then just play all the big songs around that.

"I think we're playing 75 minutes [at the Oklahoma State Fair on Friday, September 18], which isn't bad," he continued. "We can pretty much do everything. We don't have new material in the set yet, but we do a lot of jams and stuff and get the crowd into the show and stuff like that. We kind of don't know exactly what's gonna happen. That makes it fun for us. You're not going through the motions or whatever."

Brett joined GREAT WHITE as the replacement for Andrew Freeman (LAST IN LINE),who sang for the band for only five months.

Carlisle made his live debut with GREAT WHITE on September 24, 2022 at the Cannery Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Carlisle has been playing guitar and singing since the age of eight and counts bands like VAN HALEN, SKID ROW and METALLICA as his main influences.

In May 2022, GREAT WHITE announced that it had parted ways with singer Mitch Malloy and had replaced him with Freeman. Malloy had been in GREAT WHITE for nearly four years, having joined the group in 2018 following the departure of Terry Ilous.

Ilous, frontman of '80s L.A. hard rockers XYZ, joined GREAT WHITE in 2010 after stepping in for touring vocalist Jani Lane (WARRANT).

The Ilous-led GREAT WHITE released two albums, 2012's "Elation" and 2017's "Full Circle", before Terry was dismissed from the group.

Carlisle auditioned for "American Idol" on the episode broadcast February 9. Brett sang GREAT WHITE's classic ballad "House Of Broken Love", backed by his bandmates Kendall on guitar and Michael Lardie on piano.
