MARTY FRIEDMAN To Perform Japanese National Anthem At Drift Racing D1 Grand Prix In Tokyo

Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman will perform the Japanese national anthem at the Drift Racing D1 Grand Prix in Tokyo on June 8. This will mark the first time a non-Japanese has performed the anthem at such an event.

Friedman's "Street Demon" (off his 2006 solo album "Loudspeaker") has been a staple at Japanese racing events and television since its release.

In other news, Marty will perform with Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, and Simon Phillips in Nagoya on May 22 to celebrate Hoshino's (Ibanez and Tama's parent company) 100th year in the music business. Marty will also perform "Tears of an Angel" on Beat Takashi's "Daredemo Picasso" TV program at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 30 on TV Tokyo.

Inspired by former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman's TV performance of the Japanese standard "Amagi Goe", Seattle Mariners superstar Ichiro Suzuki will use Marty's new version of Sayuri Ishikawa's classic track as his new theme song.

Marty arranged and played the cut last winter on the prime time TV show "Daredemo Picasso". He was honored to have the legendary singer Ishikawa herself join him in the performance. The arrangement was an "aggressive" take on a traditional Japanese melody.
