MASTODON Members Discuss Proposed 'Crack The Skye' Movie

May 21, 2009

Metal Injection recently conducted an interview with MASTODON vocalist/bassist Troy Sanders and drummer Brann Dailor. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Metal Injection: What kind of vibe are you going for with [the projected "Crack the Skye" movie]? Is it like "The Wall" or the KISS movie?

Brann Dailor: No, not the KISS movie, although that's a great movie.

Metal Injection: Would there be dialog in the movie or is just the music with visuals?

Brann Dailor: I don't know yet. The first thought that we had for it was just the music and a movie to go along with it. That's what the treatment is for. But we talked to some directors and they're kind of into possibly introducing some dialogue so it's a little more cohesive and makes more sense and making it like "The Wall" or something like that. But, it's kind of at a stand still right now. We don't know if it's going to happen, but we want it to happen. I guess we'll see.

Troy Sanders: We're definitely trying everything we can to make this "Crack the Skye" film, but it's quite involved. You need financial backing, a director on board...but we're working as hard we possibly can and we would like for it to be born.

Brann Dailor: You need assistant directors standing around being like 'Hey, hey, hey, move back. Step back five feet, we're filming a movie here!'

Metal Injection: That guy needs to get paid!

Brann Dailor: Yep.

Troy Sanders: We're eternally searching for the proper catering too.

The entire interview can be seen below.
