MEGADETH Guitarist Comments On 'Affliction: Banned' Event

July 22, 2008

MEGADETH, one of the bands signed to the Affliction clothing line, performed a three-song set Saturday night (July 19) at the inaugural "Affliction: Banned" event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

"Affliction: Banned" was headlined by a WAMMA championship bout between the last PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. The main card aired live on pay-per-view, while the undercard partially aired on Fox Sports Net.

The group's set consisted of the following songs:

01. Symphony Of Destruction
02. Tornado Of Souls
03. Holy Wars

Commented MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick: "It was awesome [playing the 'Affliction: Banned' event]!!! All of you that were able to attend, cheer and scream for us really made the day. I was wondering how well we would be received in a fighting event, but I think with each song we played the crowd in general started to cheer along with MEGADETH fans (very cool). Another difference was the wait in between the three songs. It's very easy to get up, play one song and then walk off the stage, but it also allows you to cool down in between each song and lose focus (for me, it made me feel anxious, just like we were playing a new show with each song). Meeting the fighters was an event in itself and gave me even more respect for what they can do. In all, this was a great show to play and anytime Affliction wants to do this again I would be more than willing."

In other news, episode 4 of the official MEGADETH podcast is available. The MEGADETH fan club (MegaFanClub) film crew caught up with Broderick in Chicago, Illinois during this past spring's Gigantour. Broderick takes the fans on a detailed tour of the MEGADETH tour bus, a place fans often see from the outside, but never on the inside.
