MEGADETH's 'S**t-Throwing' Fans Threaten To Derail Edmonton Concert; Video Available

May 13, 2008

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of Michael Fraser has submitted the following report:

"I attended Gigantour last night [Monday, May 12] in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Before MEGADETH even took the stage apparently someone threw a water bottle or some water on the soundboard. From behind the curtains someone (possibly [MEGADETH mainman] Dave [Mustaine]) got on a mic and told us that if anyone does that again they will not play.

[Note: According to another person who attended the concert, "It was the soundboard guy that went on the mic and announced, 'If anyone throws anything else at the sound equipment the show will be cancelled so if you see anyone throwing any sh*t at the sound board, kick their f**king ass,' [and] then the crowd cheered. What really pissed of the sound guy was that it hit the board then hit him and what looked to be red Powerade splashing all over the place."]

"After some more time, they [MEGADETH] finally hit the stage and after a few songs Dave addresed the crowd by saying he 'knows it sounds crappy,' but it was not there fault because the soundboard got fucked up. To be honest, it was so loud, I did not even notice the sound quality. After some more songs, he got on the mic again and said, 'Look guys, I already have two shoes on, so don't throw one up on stage.' Pretty funny banter, but then he went on, 'And if you throw any more shit up here, I will fuckin' walk off this stage and go right back to my dressing room.' Later, during 'A Tout Le Monde', two jackasses jumped the stage and ran over to him. They tried to put their arms around him and he shoved them away hard. Security finally got there and took them away. Now, to his credit, he did finish playing the song, but then without another word he took his guitar off and walked off stage. The band followed like 30 seconds later. The crowd was left wondering what the fuck was going on since the stage was still all lit up and no one came on stage to say anything. Finally, after 15 minutes, Dave came back on stage and starting bitching: 'Why should I play for you?' and what-not [see clip below], [and] finally he started playing again."

A registered MEGADETH forum member who goes by the name "kingmidis" posted the following report from last night's show:

"Some dickhead threw a beer or something on the soundboard, thus making Dave, and I'm sure the whole crew, pissed off and on edge. Shit getting thrown on stage fueled the tension and at the pinicle, some dickheads ran across stage during 'A Toute Le Monde' causing the band to walk off stage for 20 or so minutes. (I presume during that time, Dave and co. kicked the fucking shit out of the guy who got caught on stage.)

"Dave comes back on stage to give the lowdown and chew out security. Gives a solid speech on the situation and the utter lack of respect it is to have shit thrown on stage/people get on stage. (Dimebag ref* to how things have changed) Then he says, 'If you come on stage, I'm gonna get you!' Needless to say he was pissed.

"BUT... for some reason, they played 100% perfect, full or energy and attitude the rest of the night. It was something to behold. Chris [Broderick, guitar] was crazy perfect, Dave nailed everything to a post, James [Lomenzo, bass] wins 'Showman Of The Night' award, and Shawn [Drover, drums] hammered it out like a sledge. Best MEGADETH performence I've seen to date... coupled with the worst crowd to date from the bullshit of almost causing the show to stop from the beer on the soundboard, to the throwing of shit on stage during performance, to the jumping on stage after fair enough warning from Dave about fucking around.

"I give mad kudos for Dave and co for coming back on and playing as killer as they did."

Fan-filmed video footage of Dave Mustaine addressing the crowd at last night's MEGADETH concert in Edmonton can be viewed below.
