September 24, 2004

The new studio release from metal legends MEGADETH, "The System Has Failed", has entered the national album charts in the following countries:

No. 10: Canada
No. 12: Finland
No. 14: Sweden
No. 18: U.S.A.
No. 28: France
No. 32: Holland
No. 38: Denmark
No. 43: Austria
No. 57: Switzerland

"The System Has Failed" sold 5,046 units in Canada since its September 14 release, setting a new high in the band's career by debuting in the highest chart position (No. 10) in the band's history during the SoundScan era.

"These incredible first week results confirm what we have known all along, that Dave Mustaine is unquestionably one of the most talented metal musicians and songwriters in the history of the genre," Adam Sewell, Label Director for Sanctuary Records Group Canada, said in a statement. "While many of his contemporaries have faded into history or lost touch with their metal roots, Dave maintains his ability to connect with the legions of MEGADETH fans nationwide. And at the end of the day, the numbers don't lie. MEGADETH is back."

MEGADETH will kick off their much-anticipated "Blackmail the Universe Tour" on October 23 in Reno, NV. Support at all dates will come from EARSHOT and an as-yet-unannounced third act.
