May 22, 2007MEGADETH's latest album, "United Abominations", has entered the Italian chart at position No. 24. As previously reported, the CD also debuted on the U.K. chart at No. 23, making it the band's highest-charting LP in the U.K. since 1994's "Youthanasia", which peaked at No. 6. MEGADETH's last album, "The System Has Failed", debuted at No. 60 on the U.K. chart. "United Abominations" also debuted at No. 23 on the official Australian ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) chart.
According to Hits Daily Double, MEGADETH is on track to sell around 60,000 copies of its latest CD, "United Abominations", in the United States in its first week of release to land in the Top 10 (possibly Top 5) of the Billboard chart. This is more than the 46,000 first-week tally registered by its predecessor, "The System Has Failed" (which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart),and is in line with the 61,000 opening number of 2001's "The World Needs A Hero" (No. 16).
On March 25, MEGADETH taped a special "invite-only" set and took part in a question-and-answer session at the Musique Plus studios in Montreal, Quebec. The band played four songs — "Washington Is Next", "Sleepwalker", "Gears of War" and "A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)" — for a Musique Plus special that aired yesterday (May 15),the street date of MEGADETH's new album, "United Abominations".
