March 14, 2008MEGADETH will play in India for the very first time tonight (Friday, March 14),wrapping up this leg of the "Tour Of Duty" world tour, which has taken the band through Europe these past two months. MEGADETH is set to headline today's Rock In India festival in Bangalore, playing to an estimated 25,000 fans.
The following is a short question-and-answer session ExpressIndia.com conducted with MEGADETH (not credited to any particular member) prior to the Bangalore concert:
ExpressIndia.com: How does it feel to be in India?
Megadeth: The band's lineage is very strong. And we're really excited to bring the band to its Indian fans. It's a fantastic honour to have the opportunity to show where we are right now.
ExpressIndia.com: There seems to be a consensus in the music world that metal is poised to make a big comeback. Do you think it ever really went away?
Megadeth: I don't think it really went away. It has always been there and will be there. But we must say that with the growing number of metal bands, more and more people are waking up to it.
ExpressIndia.com: It has been 24 years since your first album came out. How has the journey been?
Megadeth: The journey has been fantastic, there has never been a dull moment. But we would like to think there will be many more exciting moments in the future.
ExpressIndia.com: Would you say there has been a return to the old-school speed-metal roots with the release of your album "United Abominations" last year?
Megadeth: I think so. It was an amazing project, a true MEGADETH album.
ExpressIndia.com: What is the band's take on Indian music?
Megadeth: We're not very familiar with Indian music, to be honest, though we would love to hear some local talent, as we are always looking to hear something new, regardless of where it is from.
ExpressIndia.com: Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans in India?
Megadeth: I hope to see you at the show, and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as we will!
