MELECHESH Mainman Jams With Turkish Pop Star; Video Available
July 16, 2009While staying in Turkey for the past two weeks to explore the country's spiritual sides and sites, Ashmedi, frontman of Sumerian thrashing black metallers MELECHESH, also met up with several renowned Turkish musicians. One of them, famous Turkish pop/rock star Harun Kolcak, who has a deep interest in occultism and black metal, invited Ashmedi to join the stage during a jam session in a small jazz club in Istanbul.
Watch video footage of the performance below.
Ashmedi tells the Deciblog: "Well, I flew to Istanbul with hopes to absorb that city and its East/West fusion to feed my inspiration and hoping some elements will rub off on the new album. One of the highlights was this improvised jam sessions with leading musicians. I asked the band to follow my lead without having any plan or pre-composed things — just some Middle Eastern and Indian-sounding scales; but kept it basic and sincere. The rest is documented in this video, very psychedelic Eastern rock and metal blend; we all were surprised how it was turning out in real time."
Ashmedi and MELECHESH bandmate Moloch recently spent time at the Sulphonic studio in Rotterdam working on demos for the follow-up to the "Emissaries" album. This will be MELECHESH's fifth full-length effort and first for Nuclear Blast Records. No date is set for the recording but it will not be before the fall.
MELECHESH's performance at last month's Hellfest in Clisson, France was captured for "Ashmedi: A Metal Disporant", a new documentary from Tools of the Trade Productions focusing on MELECHESH's Ashmedi. According to a press release, "this documentary [tries] to capture Ashmedi in his personal surroundings as well as his music life in the Netherlands. The camera travel[s] with him to Jerusalem in the 'Holy' Land to emphasize and document the settings that have been relevant to the writing processes and the timeline of MELECHESH's existence. This portrait reveal[s] what aspects of the area contributed to the shaping of Ashmedi's personality on a spiritual, intellectual and musical level."
MELECHESH's latest album, "Emissaries" — the follow-up to 2003's "Sphynx" — was released January 23, 2007 on Osmose Productions/The End Records.
