Members Of KREATOR, SEPULTURA, DESTRUCTION, SABATON, CANNIBAL CORPSE And Other Bands Take Part In '70000 Tons Of Metal' All-Star Jam (Video)
February 11, 2018
Fifty heavy metal musicians — including members of KREATOR, SEPULTURA, DESTRUCTION, SABATON, CANNIBAL CORPSE and METAL CHURCH — took part in this year's edition of "Jamming With Waters In International Waters", the official 70000 Tons Of Metal all-star jam hosted by ANNIHILATOR's Jeff Waters.
Fan-filmed video footage of the entire event can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user "ZarTh Vader").
This year's 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise set sail from Port Lauderdale, Florida on February 1 and headed to the Grand Turk and Caicos Islands and back in a trek that lasted until February 5.
The organizers of the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise claim it to be the original and biggest heavy metal sea cruise. The first such music festival on a cruise ship took place in 2011.
"When we came up with the idea years ago, there weren't any other heavy metal cruises around," Andy Piller, skipper and organizer of 70000 Tons Of Metal, told Ship Technology. "From the displacement of the vessel and the number of passengers, we outnumber all of the others."
Regarding how he deals with the many logistical challenges posed by the heavy metal sea cruise concept, including the mixing of passengers and artists, Piller said: "Once you walk over that gangway to the ship, something in your subconscious happens. The mutual respect develops and they realize, literally, 'We're all in the same boat.'" As for security risks, Piller said: "We bring our own force onboard, as the ship's security is not used to handling that type of crowd."
