METAL CHURCH Guitarist Launches Prog-Rock Project
October 13, 2004In a recent interview with Rockdetector.com's Bernard Doe, METAL CHURCH guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof revealed that he had launched a brand new prog-rock project.
"There is a whole bunch of material that I have written that is like old-school progressive rock," Kurdt explained. "At some point I'm going to put the finishing touches on that as another side project. It was too left-field for VANDERHOOF, so I am going to call this project PRESTO BALLET. It is just an experimentation on my part."
Do you have a lineup in mind for PRESTO BALLET?
"We will probably use the singer from the first VANDERHOOF album (Damon Albright) who is currently working on his solo album. Plus, there will be Jeff Wade, the drummer from the METAL CHURCH 'Masterpeace' tour. He is more technical and probably more suited for that kind of thing. Brian Lake (VANDERHOOF, METAL CHURCH) will play bass, and Brian Cokeley from VANDERHOOF will play keyboards and do backing vocals. I'm doing guitars and keyboards."
When do you think any material is likely to surface?
"Probably early in the new year. In what capacity, I have no idea? Again, it may be just something available through the web site."
Vanderhoof also discussed his present day relationship with ex-METAL CHURCH singer David Wayne and answers the direct question as to whether METAL CHURCH are a Christian Metal band or not.
