METALLICA Confirm South American Tour Dates

August 7, 2003

METALLICA's official web site, www.metallica.com, has confirmed the following tour dates for South America:

Oct. 25 - Buenos Aires, ARG - River Plate Stadium
Oct. 28 - Santiago, CHL - Pista Atletica Estadio Nacional
Oct. 30 - Rio de Janeiro, BRA - ATL Hall
Nov. 01 - Sao Paulo, BRA - Pacaeumbu Stadium

In other news, METALLICA frontman James Hetfield spoke to The Salt Lake Tribune late last month about the possible musical direction of the group's next studio album. "Whatever the next step, whatever our hearts tell us, whenever we go in again, it just felt right not to overproduce [on 'St. Anger'], not to worry too much about all the extra bells and whistles, to just capture moments that felt good on tape," he said. "I think we did a great job with that. Next time it might be a little different."

When asked what he would say to the critics, like the people that don't like the drum sound or the absence of solos on "St. Anger", James said, "[I would tell them] that we've got eight or seven other albums they can buy if they want. We discovered early on in our career that you can't please everybody and all you can do is do what your heart tells you to do and that's what we do and that the people who need this music will show up for it. . . . [We've been criticized for] doing a video, doing a ballad, yeah there's all kinds of cries of sellout. Lots of people love to over-analyze what we do. There's people doing a great job at that (laughs). Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it just gets really old and a little ridiculous but all we have to do is keep doing what we're doing."
