METALLICA Confirmed For Portugal's ROCK IN RIO Festival

METALLICA have been confirmed to perform at the Rock in Rio-Lisbon festival in Lisbon, Portugal on June 4, the third night of the five-day event. Also scheduled to appear at the event are GUNS N' ROSES, who will top the bill on May 30.

The following are the currently confirmed dates for METALLICA's spring 2004 European tour, according to Metallica.com:

May 26 - Copenhagen, DEN @ Parken
May 28 - Helsinki, FIN @ Olympic Stadium
May 30 - Gothenburg, SWE @ Ullevi
Jun. 04 - Lisbon, POR @ Rock In Rio-Lisbon
Jun. 08 - Ludwigshafen, GER @ Sudweststdion
Jun. 10 - Gelsenkirchen, GER @ Arena Auf Schalke
Jun. 11 - Wiener Neustadt, AUT @ Aerodome Festival
Jun. 13 - Munich, GER @ Olympic Stadium
Jun. 16 - Bermen, GER @ Weserstadion

Opening act for all shows (with the exception of Rock In Rio-Lisbon) is said to be SLIPKNOT, who will be touring in support of their new studio album, tentatively due in April 2004.

GODSMACK have been saying at recent U.S. shows that they will be supporting METALLICA on their spring 2004 North American tour, which will reportedly kick off on March 2. The Boston group are currently opening for METALLICA on the European leg of the "Madly In Anger With You World Tour".

In other news, METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett has told the Norwegian daily newspaper Aftenposten that the band are planning on returning to the studio next autumn to begin work on the follow-up to "St. Anger", tentatively due in late 2005/early 2006.
