METALLICA Drummer Attends JOHN STEINBECK AWARD Presentation

METALLICA's Lars Ulrich was one of the well-wishers at the presentation of this year's John Steinbeck Award to his close friend, Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on Friday (Sept. 10),according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The John Steinbeck Award has been given annually since 1996 by the Center for Steinbeck Studies at San Jose State University. The subtitle of the award is "In the souls of the people," a quote from "The Grapes of Wrath". Organizers look for artists who buck the status quo and fight for a better world.
