METALLICA's 'Death Magnetic' Certified Double-Platinum In Germany
May 27, 2009METALLICA's latest album, "Death Magnetic", has been certified double-platinum in Germany for sales in excess of 400,000 copies. The CD, which topped the German Media Control chart upon its release last September, shifted 150,000 units in Germany within the first seven days.
The four members of METALLICA were presented with the "Death Magnetic" double-platinum plaques at the May 17, 2009 "Guitar Hero: Metallica" launch event at the Café in Cologne, Germany. A photo can be viewed below.
METALLICA may film its three upcoming concerts in Mexico City for a DVD, according to a post at the official website of longtime band photographer Ross Halfin. Halfin wrote that he will attend the shows to shoot pictures for the DVD's cover. However, a representative for the band's management told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that neither the shoot nor the DVD are fully confirmed at this point. METALLICA is scheduled to play Mexico City for the first time in a decade on June 4, June 6 and June 7, with the group keeping the shows on its schedule despite the recent outbreak of swine flu that originated in the area.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD and a Mexican act called RESORTE will serve as the opening acts.
METALLICA is also scheduled to shoot footage for a DVD this summer, when the band plays a show in France on July 7. That DVD, however, will be a French release only.
METALLICA has issued several DVDs in the past, including "Cliff 'Em All", "Cunning Stunts", "S&M With The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra" and "A Year And A Half".
The band, recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, continues to tour behind "Death Magnetic", which has sold 1.77 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. They'll play Europe throughout the summer before returning to North America in the fall.
