METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT Comments On Upcoming North American Tour

METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett spoke to MTV News about the band's upcoming North American tour — the 32-date trek that kicks off in late October. THE SWORD will open all shows, with LAMB OF GOD, DOWN and MACHINE HEAD joining the bill on separate legs.

"It's our first full indoor tour in America," Hammett told MTV News. "For the last three or four summers, we've been going over to Europe and doing all the festivals, and it looks like we just totally ignored our fans in America, but that's not the case. As a consequence, the American fans miss us, and they want their METALLICA, so this will be a good homecoming for them and us."

Members of METALLICA's Met Club and "platinum" members of the Mission: Metallica web site will get early access to tickets, with on-sale dates to be announced.

METALLICA's new album, "Death Magnetic", is scheduled for release on September 12. The CD's first single, "The Day That Never Comes", will go for radio adds before the end of the month.

METALLICA debuted a new song called "Cyanide" during its headlining set on Saturday night (August 9) at Ozzfest, which took place at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas. This marked the first time that the band has performed any material in concert from "Death Magnetic". The rest of METALLICA's 17-song Ozzfest set featured a number of the band's classic tunes as well as a medley of songs from underground metal act MERCYFUL FATE, for which they were joined onstage by that Danish act's singer, King Diamond.
