METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT: DAVE ELLEFSON Is Not Our New Bass Player

April 7, 2002

Contrary to recent rumors, former MEGADETH bassist Dave Ellefson has not been selected to replace Jason Newsted in METALLICA, according to METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett, who made a brief appearance in the members-only chat room of the band's official web site on Friday, April 5th.

Hammett reportedly offered no further information about Newsted's possible replacement or the band's ongoing songwriting sessions for their forthcoming studio CD, which is not expected to appear before early 2003.

The rumors of Ellefson joining METALLICA gained strength in the past week after a fake Associated Press article was circulated via the Internet that attributed MEGADETH's break-up to Ellefson's decision to link up with Hetfield and co.
