METALLICA's Record Label A Thing Of The Past?

April 25, 2004

METALLICA's record company, Elektra, has merged with another Warner Music Group unit, Atlantic, to become one East Coast label, with the consolidation finalized earlier this month. While Elektra is still well represented within the ranks, Atlantic's senior management appeared to emerge with the upper hand, according to Billboard. Every department head at Elektra was either terminated or has exited after turning down new positions that came with pay cuts. How this will affect METALLICA is not yet known, but METALLICA currently have one album left on their contract before the band make a decision as to whether they will stay with the label. METALLICA first signed with Elektra back in 1984 shortly after the Megaforce release of "Ride The Lightning".

In other news, Metallicavault.com, METALLICA's web site that contains hours of downloadable live recordings, demos and B-sides for free, has finally been updated with four archived live recordings:

Los Angeles, California - December 21, 1996
Gothenburg, Sweden - February 13, 1987
Cape Girardeau, Missouri - May 24, 1986
Hammersmith London, England - September 21, 1986

The previous three shows that were first uploaded to the site are still available. To get access to the vault you must have the key code that comes available with the album "St. Anger".
