METALLICA's South African Concert Organizers: Don't Blame Us

March 21, 2006

Independent Online is reporting that the organizers of Saturday's (March 18) Coca-Cola Colab Massive Mix Tour concert at SuperSport Park in South Africa — featuring a host of local artists and several international acts, including METALLICA — have admitted that there were "huge problems", especially with refreshments and toilet facilities for the crowd of 45 000, but have passed the blame onto the stadium management.

Big Concerts spokesperson Michael Anetakis confirmed there were problems with drinks in particular during the 12-hour concert, but said it was beyond their control because they didn't have the drinks concession.

"Stadium management was made fully aware of the numbers to expect and I was shocked and appalled at the queues and unavailability of drinks," he said.

Adam White, an avid METALLICA fan, said the show was awesome: "METALLICA just blew me away." But he said that though the show was great, the organization was terrible. "We queued for nearly two hours to get beer, only to find there was none. We paid one of those guys with the beer rucksacks R600 for everything he had."
