METALLICA To Receive 'Record Fee' For Bulgarian Concert
April 5, 2008According to Bulgaria's News.bg, legendary heavy metal band METALLICA will be paid a "record fee" of $1.6 million for its July 25 performance at the 44,000-capacity Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, Bulgaria. Meanwhile, KISS will reportedly receive $650,000 for its May 16 concert at the city's 18,000-capacity Akademik Stadium.
METALLICA has confirmed a second U.S. concert appearance, on May 16 at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tucson, Arizona for "KFMA Day". According to the group's official web site, they'll be joined by APOCALYPTICA, SCARS ON BROADWAY and FLOBOTS at the event. Tickets went on sale today (Saturday, April 5) with METALLICA fan club members getting their chance on Thursday (April 3). METALLICA's only other confirmed U.S. live performance so far this year is at the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee in mid-June, although the post at the band's web site noted, "We have a couple more things lurking, so keep watching here."
METALLICA will participate in "Record Store Day" on April 19 by making an in-store appearance at Rasputin Music in Mountain View, California starting at 2 p.m. PT. METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said on England's BBC Radio last month that the band's new album is tentatively going to surface in September, adding, "I like what I've heard so far."
The band has scheduled a slew of European festival dates for May, June and July in addition to its two U.S. shows.
