In the latest episode of "The First Time With…", BBC 6 Music's Matt Everitt chats to Lars Ulrich, drummer and co-founder of METALLICA, about the key first musical moments in Ulrich's life. Lars discusses his childhood in his native Denmark — how a career in professional tennis was hijacked by a love of British heavy rock, the early days of METALLICA in Los Angeles, the band's evolution from bars to clubs and arenas with the groundbreaking "black" album. He also chats about his passion for Ennio Morricone, METALLICA's recent move into movie making with the film "Through The Never", as well as his friendship with Noel Gallagher (Lars was once enlisted as an OASIS concert lighting man, after theirs fell ill!) and his huge passion for the music of ARCTIC MONKEYS.

Ulrich earlier in the year got engaged to model Jessica Miller. The 50-year-old Ulrich has been married twice before and has two sons, 14-year-old Myles and 12-year-old Layne, from his second marriage to Skylar Satenstein. He also has a six-year-old boy named Bryce from a previous relationship with Danish actress Connie Nielsen.
Miller is 29 years old and was previously in a relationship with SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian. She has appeared on the covers of international editions of Vogue magazine and has also been a model for Gap, H&M, Chanel and others.
METALLICA will head into the studio in early 2014 to begin work on its 10th studio album. The band will emerge next summer for a European tour on which each night's set list will be chosen online by fans attending the gig.
The band's traditional 18-song set will include the 17 top voted songs along with a brand new track.
The tour, dubbed the "Metallica by Request" tour, will kick off on May 28 at the Sonisphere festival in Helsinki, Finland and travel across Europe through July 11.
