MOONSPELL Frontman Talks About His Job As Book Translator: Audio Available

June 24, 2008

Italian journalist Paolo Bianco recently spoke to Fernando Ribeiro, frontman of Portuguese goth-metallers MOONSPELL. Part of the interview focused on Fernando's job as a translator of books from English to Portuguese, which culminated this year with the Portuguese version of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend", a book well received by science-fiction fans.

Ribeiro compared his two different jobs and the two kind of fans he encounters, describing sci-fi readers as "more picky than metal fans, judging you on every single word you choose," and admitting that sometimes he would switch jobs with a book-writer friend of his, leaving the noise of 3,000 people at a rock show for the silence of a library. Ribeiro also gave an in-depth look at his method for a successful translation, which he sums up as "betraying words to help the story".

The interview can be streamed on the Musica Metal web site (press the "Play" button in the middle of the page).
