More Footage Of SOUNDGARDEN Near-Reunion Available

March 28, 2009

SOUNDGARDEN guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepherd, and drummer Matt Cameron performed together onstage for the first time in more than a decade on Tuesday night (March 24) at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe. The trio came out for a show on RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello's ongoing Justice Tour, for which he invites musician friends in each city to perform. Singing in place of frontman Chris Cornell was Tad Doyle, former leader of Seattle cult band TAD. The foursome's three-song "TADGARDEN" set included what Ear Candy described as a "powerful" rendition of early SOUNDGARDEN song "Nothing To Say" as well as the band's 1994 hit "Spoonman".

Check out more video footage of the performance below.

SOUNDGARDEN broke up in 1997 after 12 years together and five studio albums. Along with NIRVANA, PEARL JAM and ALICE IN CHAINS, the band led the way for the Seattle "grunge" sound and alternative music revolution of the 1990s.

On the prospect of a SOUNDGARDEN reunion, Cameron told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he didn't think it was a good idea. "I think it would be a lot cooler if we just stayed broken up," he said. "Keep it in the past. Rock is a young man's sport. You don't want to see some old, paunchy guys out there, do ya?"

Cameron has been playing drums for PEARL JAM for the better part of the last decade.

Morello, of course, worked with Cornell for five years in AUDIOSLAVE, which disbanded in 2007 after three studio albums.

As for Cornell, he's currently on the road behind his latest solo effort, "Scream", which has been the subject of critical and fan scorn for his collaboration with Timbaland and the CD's urban-flavored pop sound.

The evening also featured the live debut of STREET SWEEPER, Morello's new rock outfit with rapper Boots Riley of THE COUP, plus appearances from Wayne Kramer of the MC5, Steve Earle, and MUDHONEY's Mark Arm.
