MUSHROOMHEAD Begins Recording New Album
February 25, 2009The pioneering masked madmen MUSHROOMHEAD have locked themselves in their private studio at the Filthy Hands compound in Cleveland, Ohio to begin work on their seventh studio release, which is due out summer 2009 via Megaforce. Produced by co-founding member and drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton, the yet-to-be-titled album promises to be the band's "most violent- and epic-sounding to date!"
"Hell yeah, let's go!" states Felton. "After producing the last six albums, I know what these guys can do and once again they are killing it! The cool thing about working with MUSHROOMHEAD is that there is always an idea on the table and someone brings it to the next level. Every time someone tracks they raise the bar for the rest of the records, thank God! They call each other out, they play each other's parts they even fistfight! Their passion is undeniable and that is what rock and roll is all about! The sound is super-dark and creepy and even violent at times."
Keyboardist Shmotz adds: "The new album is off to a great start and is full of aggression and intensity, although it is tough to be creative and keep a solid drug habit with all of the illegal downloading and file sharing these days!"
In other news, Fangoria magazine and MUSHROOMHEAD have entered into a strategic partnership which will see the band performing at their upcoming Weekend of Horrors conventions in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City this year. Fangoria Entertainment's Scott Licina states: "MUSHROOMHEAD is one of those unique acts that defy musical labels, regardless of image or demographic categorization. The theatricality of their stage presentation is full out horror show, yet the songs themselves are amazingly diverse and complex, a far cry from the sonic banality of many of their contemporaries. These are true musicians, who not only know how to rock it hard, but also understand the importance of substance and melody, and subtlety and timing. Their music is as rich as their showmanship, and that's extremely rare in the world of alt metal. It's the combination of all these high levels of excellence that makes MUSHROOMHEAD a great audio counterpart for Fangoria Entertainment. We pride ourselves on demanding the highest of standards for all our endeavors, and including the band into our 30th anniversary Weekend Of Horrors events was an easy and natural decision. We insist on the best for our readers and attendees, and having MUSHROOMHEAD do a special performance at the Shock-N-Roll Spooktacular fits that exacting criteria perfectly."
"Volume 2", the latest DVD from MUSHROOMHEAD, sold 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 7 on the Top Music Videos chart.
The follow-up to the band's 2005 DVD release "Volume 1", "Volume 2" (Filthy Hands/Megaforce) features two-and-a-half hours of pure mayhem, including exclusive never-before-seen content, live footage from the past three years on the group's "Savior Sorrow" tour, and music videos (including "Headbanger's Ball" 2007 "Video Of The Year" "1200", "Simple Survival", and the band's brand new video "Save Us"). Other extras include video commentary, behind-the-scenes footage and band antics.
