MY RUIN: Entire New Album Available For Streaming

September 25, 2010

"Ghosts And Good Stories", the sixth album from MY RUIN — the Los Angeles-based band featuring the husband-and-wife rock duo of vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy and multi-instrumentalist Mick Murphy — is available for streaming in its entirety using the ReverbNation player below. Co-produced by Mick Murphy and Josh Lynch, the CD boasts 13 tracks written and played entirely by Murphy on guitar, bass and drums.

Commented Tairrie: "We were told by [our Germany-based record label] Tiefdruck-Musik that 'Ghosts And Good Stories' was originally set for release in August and given several dates which we used to promote the release online and in magazine ads, but it seems things are always changing behind the scenes without our knowledge.

"Our record became available to download on iTunes August 20, but none of the following dates scheduled actually happened at that time. Thankfully, our album is finally starting to arrive in stores and to many people who have pre-ordered it but there are still territories where it is not yet available even though it's been ordered so we are currently trying to suss this situation with our distribution companies and label and hope to have things sorted soon.

"With that in mind, we have decided to stream 'Ghosts And Good Stories' in full this past week as a gift to our friends and fans who have been so supportive to us through the bull$#!t we have been forced to deal with due to circumstances beyond our control such as our September tour [which was set to kick off this weekend in the U.K. and continue throughout Europe] being postponed last minute. We have also decided to take things into our own hands once again and are in the process of rebooking the tour for 2011 with the first rescheduled date recently announced as March 11 at the Underworld in London.

"MY RUIN have always had a DIY spirit and aesthetic which we're very proud of. It keeps us focused and deterimined to keep going and just do what we do.

"In this day and age when so many bands pack it up and break up after a couple records, we feel blessed to be able to continue to make music we love and share it with those who want to hear it ten years in, never letting the assjacks who have tried to sabotage and stop us along the way win.

"While there is always a certain struggle, there is also a certain satisfaction that comes with being an independent band and holding your album in your hand knowing you poured your hearts, souls and selves into the making of it from top to bottom.

"The new digipack we created was inspired by the vintage cover photograph of my grandparents from the early 1900s and includes a beautiful 16-page booklet and a film-noir-style enhanced behind-the-scenes studio movie that we filmed and edited ourselves documenting the making of the album in a unique way.

"We're getting some of the best reviews of our career at the moment which reminds us that all of our efforts have not gone unnoticed and we appreciate people listening to our new album with an open mind this time."

Tairrie B recently stated about "Ghosts And Good Stories", "We went about making this album in a different way. We decided not to rush things but rather take our time and enjoy ourselves. Not only did Mick write the music and play all the instruments on the new album but he also co-produced and mixed it with longtime friend Josh Lynch at Entourage Studios in North Hollywood and Weapons of Mass Productions in Santa Monica, California.

"Our recording sessions were very organic and was nice to have the freedom to create and produce the album we wanted to make with no heavy-handed pressure or deadlines from the label but instead lots of support. Tiefdruck Musik owner Daniel Heerdman really loves and understands our music and band as does everyone at the label which is something we have not felt from a label in a long time and it's a welcome surprise.

"While I was creating the album artwork, I wanted the feeling to be otherworldly and dark, unlike anything we have done in the past and to set the mood for the music, which I think it does.

"The new cover art [see below] is actually a vintage portrait from my family album. It is a photo of my great grandparents in front of their home taken sometime in the early 1900s which has been slightly altered.

"I came across the image last year as we were recording our new album and it just sort of spoke to me in a very haunting way. I was drawn to it over and over again while coming up with the album's title, which is taken from the lead track 'Diggin' for Ghosts'.

"The album starts off very doomy and ends with a slow, spoken-word dirge over a musical soundscape that ties it all in from beginning to end but the record as a whole is definitely very brutal and up tempo with lots of rock riffs and my trademark scream vocals."

When asked about the theme of the new album in a recent interview for Devolution magazine in the U.K., Tairrie said, "I would say that 'Ghosts and Good Stories' is definitely a concept album and one which is quite reflective and apocalyptic on many levels. It didn't necessarily start off that way but it eventually began to write itself into a bit of an intimate portrait of our life as a band in and around the city of Los Angeles.

"Over the years religious imagery has played a huge part in my lyrical content and I have often left things open to interpretation but with this record it has gone from being more of a cryptically metaphorical aesthetic to highly confrontational in some instances."
