New SYSTEM OF A DOWN Side Project Might Not Come Out Through COLUMBIA

SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian's new band with SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan, called SCARS ON BROADWAY, is close to completing its debut album, which is expected out sometime this year. But Dolmayan told The Pulse of Radio it might not come out on Columbia Records, which SYSTEM has called home since its 1998 debut. "I would love for it to be at Columbia," he said. "I started my career at Columbia and I'd like to finish it at Columbia, because that's where I'm comfortable, but we'll see what happens. It has to work for them and — as well as us. We're in a free agency period, so we'll see what happens. We're not sure where the ultimate home for SCARS ON BROADWAY will be."

Malakian has told Revolver magazine that SCARS ON BROADWAY is both similar to and different from his work with SYSTEM. Malakian explained, "The way SYSTEM sounds is my signature, and I don't want to completely run away from that, because I like it. It's where I'm comfortable. But at the same time, we want this to have its own identity, which I think it will. I'm not writing the same songs now as I did two years ago...I can't repeat myself."

SYSTEM vocalist Serj Tankian released his debut solo album, "Elect the Dead", last October through Reprise Records.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN has been on hiatus since late 2006 while its members have pursued various individual projects.

In addition to playing in SCARS ON BROADWAY, John Dolmayan recently launched an online comics and memorabilia store at TorpedoComics.com.
