Newspaper: METALLICA To Play Massive Concert In Sweden

November 20, 2003

METALLICA will play a massive show in Gothenburg, Sweden as part of their spring 2004 European tour, the Swedish daily newspaper Expressen revealed on Thursday (Nov. 20).

The gig will take place at the 55,000-capacity Ullevi stadium in late May — most likely May 29 — according to the paper.

A spokesperson for the band's record company, Lee Raita at Universal, declined to comment on the report, stating only that "we know that they're planning a European tour this spring."

METALLICA will kick off a 13-date European trek on December 2 in Oslo, Norway, but will not be playing any Swedish shows as part of the fall 2003 tour, according to the band's web site, www.metallica.com.

METALLICA have sold 85,000 copies of their latest album, "St. Anger", in Sweden, according to Expressen. The CD, which drummer Lars Ulrich claims is METALLICA's best-selling album in Europe since the group's 1991 self-titled release, the so-called "black album," has been certified platinum in Sweden for sales in excess of 60,000 copies.
