Swedish cult metallers NIFELHEIM have been confirmed for next year's installment of the Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. The festival billing is shaping up as follows:
AS I LAY DYING
AT THE GATES
AXEL RUDI PELL
CHILDREN OF BODOM
DREAM OF AN OPIUM EATER
ENEMY OF THE SUN
NIFELHEIM released its new album, "Envoy of Lucifer", on November 19 via Regain Records.
Fan-filmed video footage of the band performing a new song, "Gates of Damnation", which appears on the new CD, on May 24, 2007 at Klubben in Stockholm, Sweden can be viewed below.
NIFELHEIM issued the following statement regarding their feelings on "Envoy of Lucifer": "Well, imagine yourself in a tsunami of piss with nothing to hang on to than the corpse of a mutilated nun and finally reaching the shores of a beautiful beach only to discover it's completely covered by shit, then you hear that they play IRON MAIDEN at the beach bar and the booze is free — that's exactly how it feels."
NIFELHEIM last year released a split EP with VULCANO via I Hate Records. NIFELHEIM's songs "Sepulcral Fornication" and "Raging Flames" were recorded at a Swedish studio in May 2006 and were described by NIFELHEIM guitarist Vengeance From Beyond (a.k.a. Sebastian Ramstedt; also in NECROPHOBIC) as "a total attack of satanic black metal." He added that "this split [is] the true synergy of evil."
NIFELHEIM's current lineup features former ENTOMBED drummer Peter Stjärnvind, who left the long-running Swedish metallers in order to concentrate on his membership in NIFELHEIM.
NIFELHEIM earlier in the year completed a Scandinavian tour as the support act for British black metal pioneers VENOM.
